An Open Letter to God for Mom

Dear God,

I’m here to pray for someone who multitasks so much in life. This is my prayer about a person who acts as a concerned friend, a devout Christian and follower of the Divine Mercy, a volunteer civil servant, a neighbor, an encourager, a martyr, a punching bag for emotions, a wife, a grandmother, someone every child would want for a mother, (as of late) a very caring sister, and the queen of my universe, my superwoman – my mommy.

She amazes me at how much work she can squeeze in the numbered hours of everyday, how she could attend to so much obligations. She does so much that I feel she almost forgets to look after herself sometimes. So much time for others, so little for herself.

This is my gift for her. She prays a lot for other people. It’s time someone else prays for her too.

I pray for my momma’s health and strength. I’m very much aware that, considering all the hazards present in this lifetime, to reach 60 may already be considered a great blessing for anyone. My mom, well, she’s more than 60 years old now and still hustling it. She’s just the coolest because she manages to maintain the youth of her heart. She’s the favorite lola of all her grandkids for a reason. Ffor that, I’m beyond thankful already, but I also hope she stays this healthy and strong for longer ‘cause we still got a lot in store for her, particularly me. I still haven’t paid back all the good things she had done and is still doing for me.

Even when I already know she’s being showered with love by all the people around her because she’s just as loving in return, I still pray that people won’t get tired of expressing just how much they love her in all the ways they can. This goes especially to us children of hers. Because we have always been so aware of her presence in our lives, we sometimes take her for granted and forget to show her true worth as our mother. I shall strive to be more communicative and appreciative of her.

In connection, I also wish that she sees all the love she’s surrounded by. She has her problems, everyone does, but don’t let her succumb; don’t let them overshadow the more important things, like that of love.

I pray that she doesn’t lose her sense of purpose in this world. She’s a lot of things, and she’s so much more.

May she keep her wisdom intact and use it for the benefit of everyone around her. Let her voice of reason be used to better other people.

I pray that you keep on showering her with blessings, big and small, that she achieves all her other aspirations because I believe she is still entitled to have dreams even at this point in her life.

Most important of all, thank you for giving her her life, best gift of all. If not for her, none of us siblings would be here, so thank you!
It may already be two weeks since her day, but the sincerity of this prayer is as genuine as ever.

Belated happy birthday, mommy! My love for you is way beyond my insensitivity and misgivings. I love you!

To the Dad who…

  • happens to be the coolest father there is with all his calm and composed disposition (Things may have already gone south, but he would just be standing there quietly listening to some song while thinking of something to make things better.)
  • I’d rather be with when shopping than Mommy because he knows just where to go exactly. (That and he gives me all the freedom to choose whatever I want.)
  • always, always smells so good – even after he has dusted off every dirt in every corner of every room in the house
  • tells stories in the gayest, funniest way
  • whenever he curses me, makes me laugh hard instead of making me feel offended (I know, we could be a weird bunch. Harhar.)
  • cooks the yummiest Pastel in the world – with too much melted cheese, just the way I like it
  • has better taste in brands than anyone in the family
  • pampers, or better yet, spoils me all the time (Hahahaha!)
  • just can’t say no to her only daughter (Yeah, unica hija perks! Haha!)
  • I first tell about my plans because I know he wouldn’t argue with me, or would argue then give in eventually
  • whenever he is home and I am not yet, would wait outside for me until I get home, rain or shine!
  • remains to be the figure everyone in the family ultimately looks up to and listens to
  • teaches us life lessons in the most laid back way (You know, no pressure really.)
  • still calls me his “little girl” even at this age (Probably until forever)
  • sacrifices being with his family just to be the good provider that he is supposed to be
  • just like mom, loves us unconditionally
Happy Father’s Day! You are my hero!

P.S.

I have been getting into list-type posts lately because they are just so easy to write. I hope this is not getting any boring because that would totally suck. Haha!

Bye for now! xx

My Momma, My Queen

I don’t actually know where to begin or whether I could even say enough. It is always hardest for me to write and talk about the people closest to my heart. They are too sacred, too close I feel like there’s no way I could give justice to their true role in my life. Words are just not enough. Never. This is why I barely write something about my family – because I know my writing will never suffice, because they are the people who will constantly and continuously impart something somehow. There’s no way I could catch up.

That being said, I still want to try. For my momma.

Because she deserves all the admiration more than anyone else.

And since I can’t point out every element of what makes her the best mother I could ever have, I decide to focus on the most important things that I am so grateful for about her instead – the things that I always, always take advantage of.

I’m a brat when it comes to her. I bitch around because I’m assured she wouldn’t loathe me deeply or give up on me easily. And when I do, she just stands by and watches. Or she nags.

She nags because I give her all the reasons to. She needs to air things out, or she’ll lose her mind. I shout; she shouts. In a way, I have grown to love and hate her high-pitch screaming voice.Truth be told, I sometimes miss it when I go away.

Then when we reach that point where we give each other the silent treatment, I stay the stubborn kid because I know she will be the first to give in.

With her, I give less and get more. I’m too selfish.

She gets less, and she doesn't complain. I’m ashamed at how I’m sometimes, or often, better with other people than with her despite everything she’s done.

I appreciate less – I don’t say I love you, no thank you. She understands. I was just not raised in that kind of environment. I was never cheesy, never mushy. And she was just used in that kind of reaction and treatment from her sons and daughter.

She is the proudest fan I have. Whoever she meets, she introduces and talks about me like I am the world's greatest daughter.

She finds ways to make ends meet. Even if it means losing her pride. How so selfless.

In the end, she forgives. Even when I don’t deserve it. Even when I don’t ask for it.

And she loves me unconditionally.
Seriously, how many moms enjoy the same bands their daughters do? How many 46-year-old mommas would stay awake 'til the wee hours just to actually watch a gig with (and not just chaperone) their 12-year-old kid? That would always be one of the fondest memories I would treasure forever. I have the coolest mommy! You gotta hand it to her!
Nothing can ever amount to a mother's love in this world.

Belated Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY, QUEEN U!

Jusz & some life lessons

As one of the few friends with whom I share a common interest of finding joy in the blogosphere, Justine, I bet, would be delighted to receive a dedicatory blognote on her big day, so I wrote her one. This would also be a good a thank you gift since she did something similar for me on my birthday.

While thinking of things to write about, I came across thoughts of how, over the years, we’ve had our teeny-tiny differences; yet, we still managed to be bigger persons and get past them. In this regard, let me share some precious things she taught me. (Your nightly fix of telenovela drama is here. Ready your hankies, fellas. LOL!)
  • First impressions DON’T last. Nope.

Jusz and I go way, way back. We started out as classmates in first year high school. The first time I saw her I was quite sure we were never gonna get along well. Cranky, snobbish and maarte – those were the initial impression. I thought I often saw her roll her eyes on anyone she didn’t like, and I thought I was one of them. The bitch and the nerve. Hahaha! Kidding! In short, I didn’t like her. Well, it was more of I didn’t know and care much about her; she didn’t know and care much about me, so we just left things at that and went about our daily lives. We weren’t off to a good start, were we? Haha!

I was wrong, though. While I was right with the maarte part (haha! more on that in a while), the rest was a mistake. Later on, I’d learn that she actually has a good heart. She can be objective about things. She can be fun without going out of line. She can be really supportive of her friends’ endeavors (even when they can be ridiculous). What she really is is a nice, considerate and caring friend. Above all, she is a smart girl. (Ayan, bumawi na ako. Haha!)
  • Being girly-girly can be goodie-goodie.

If you ask Justine’s friends to describe her, kikay or maarte is most likely the first thing that will come to their mind. Jusz is not Jusz without the curly hair, polished nails, blushing cheeks, and glossy lips. If it’s cute or girly, she’ll love it.

I used to misinterpret her being girly as an off-putting trait. I was in the habit of acting boyish before, so I thought her vanity was way over the top. I also guessed it was that notion that put up a wall between us to begin with. But as I softened to ladyhood (good for me. mwaha!), I came to realize that being girly could actually be a nice thing. She was just doing what a girl who cares about herself should do. And knowing her now, her kikay-ness would never be something that could border to slutty, always just the right mix of pretty and decent.

The good part was, as I began seeing being kikay as something positive, I used her as one of my motivations. I took a leap of faith and tried it out for myself. One thing led to another. And before I knew it, I already had daisy dukes and skirts as my closet staples. As it turned out, I could actually even be girlier than her. Haha! In my defense, I was just trying to make up for lost time and trends when I was still the old boyish me. Haha!

The point is, she helped me see and explore a side of me I didn’t know exists, so thanks, Joo.J
  • Your enemy today can be your friend tomorrow. (Enemy’s too strong a word, but it sounds catchy that way so let it be. Haha!)

As I already mentioned, my first impression of Jusz wasn’t generally pleasant; thus, it could easily be expected that we did not become super friends in HS. We were classmates; we had a lot of common friends, and that was that.

Come college, we took up the same course in the same school. Why hello there, playful destiny. Haha! Once again, we were stuck with each other.

In between those four years, the time we spent together showed that we could get along well, and that, in fact, we could even be great friends. Time proved it well.J

Now we are always on the same wavelength finishing each other’s sentences, digging rather silly jokes, loving jibberjabbers, exchanging meaningful and evil glances (haha!), and bullying the same friends and strangers. (Now that’s one awesome friendship right there. Haha!) In most of the most fun experiences I’ve had since, she’s been there with me. I feel like get-togethers are not complete without her anymore. Of all my friends, it’s her whom I have spent the most time with. That much isn’t surprising as she is the common denominator which links both my HS and my college best buds, which also makes her special.

It’s crazy how funny life can be, huh. Seven years ago, I never would’ve thought we’d be this close. I never would’ve imagined myself entrusting my feelings and secrets with her. I’m glad we’ve gone this far. *wipes tears* Hahaha!

Thank you for the friendship!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MULTIMEDIA PRINCESS!
XOXO

Virtual Gratuity

Birthdays are almost perfect  if only my age could stop and forever stay at 22. Haha! Silly wish.

As you may have already guessed, this post still has something to do with my birthday yesterday. Nope, I am not yet over it. Haha!

It was pretty special because I received two unique gifts, and I so wanted to share them here because I believe they are blog-worthy. And hey, this is a good way of showing my gratitude.

Jusz and Jerome took the time to write birthday blognotes for me. I had also written posts like these as gifts for some dear friends before, so I kind of felt animated to be on the receiving end this time. The result? It was surprising and touching (I was almost in tears). Hahaha!

Nona Reyes 101
Read the whole post on her site, Shuffled Wavelengths.

First is Justine’s gift, which is a "-101” type of post. Cute! Hers is a light and funny take on my idiosyncrasies. My favorite points are the “Mrs. ________” (It’s like I’m everybody’s missus. The poor guys don’t even know they’re already married to me.) and “Late comer” (See, I have my reasons for being late all the time. It’s fun you know.) Hahaha! It has only taken her a few years to know every nook and cranny of my persona. There's nothing I can hide from her anymore. Haha!
Read the whole post on his site, Jargoned Reality.

Second is Jerome’s surprisingly more serious post. Knowing Je, it is easier for me to expect something ultimately hilarious from him, but then what he has posted is something utterly heartfelt. I am really moved to know that he thinks highly and nicely of me. It's always gleeful moments with us, no drama, so to read something this sincere is unquestionably amusing.

On a serious note, I had an epiphany after reading these posts. I realized that my friends see me differently from the way I see myself. Oh, there’s a big difference. I mean, sure, we’re on the same page about other things, but there are also stuff I thought I already understand about myself. How they see me I can’t be too sure, but I can tell it’s something way better. I’m glad I read these things. It’s like having a fresh perspective again. The things they have written make me feel so good about myself and the things happening around me. Aaah, I love my life and the people in it!

To end this post, I just wanna say thank you to Jusz and Jerome for their effort in writing something so funny yet sweet. How do you manage to do that, guys? I really, really appreciate it! XOXO

Let my every birthday be this great!

if i were Julie...

i’m dedicating this post to my sister from another mister named Julie Ann Ceraos who celebrated her birthday last December 27. hope it’s not yet too late for a gift.J

seeing that i am not yet pooping money (HAHAHA!), giving her a material gift is definitely out of the question. she suggested that i write something about her here on my blog. why not! i’ve done it before, i can do it again.J

since this is a gift, i have to come up with things that’ll make our special girl look lovable and admirable. (this implies that she is not a nice person in reality but an attention-seeking bitch. KIDDING! HAHAHA!) truth is, she’s beautiful INSIDE OUT!

i have decided to list down a few of the gazillion things she has that i wish i had! if i were to have any of Julie's traits, which would they be? here goes the list…

SPELL GOOD POSTURE: J-U-L-I-E-A-N-N

one of my frustrations in life is my hunched back! i’ve been a humpback  ever since, not the minor humpback, but the humpback humpback (if i’m still making sense here). i tried to correct my posture and i failed. HAHAHA! but with her, maintaining a good posture’s just a piece o’cake. as an indirect effect, it gives her a beautiful curvature and boosts her self-esteem. while she’s walking proudly with a straight body, there i am walking shamefully with a crooked back. i can already see myself a few years from now having early signs of osteoporosis! HAHAHAHA!

+MATH-IS×HER÷FRIEND.

Math despises me. i despise Math. the feeling is mutual. HAHA! again, it's different in her case. she's very good with numbers. i still remember i used to copy assignment and seatwork answers from her. desperate times call for desperate measures. HAHA! this is definitely one of the skills i’d so gladly steal from her. HAHA! she was one of the class’s finest! she was among our school’s representatives for MTAP review. HAHA! yep, that's a big deal to me, a milestone. HAHAHA! don’t laugh at me, please. HAHAHA!

SINGLE, SINGLE, DOUBLE, DOUBLE

as much as i wanted to dance all my life, i have two left feet! the curse of every frustrated badass-dancer-wannabe! *insert self-pity emoticon here(if there’s one.)* HAHA! in other news, dancing is something Julie was born to do. it’s her body’s calling. she’s a good dancer not in an extravagant way, but in a simple yet graceful kind of way. she’s got her own groove. J she hasn’t danced in a long time, and i do wish to see her rock the stage again. J go, Julie! sample! sample! HAHAHA!

I TALK, SHE LISTENS.

this, i believe, is Julie’s special gift. she may not notice it but she really is a good listener. you know, she’s the kind who shows interest in whatever it is you talk about even when it doesn’t concern her. she knows when to ask questions and when to shut up. i truly appreciate her for that. when all you want is to have someone who’ll let you do all the talking, she’s who you need. Julie, what would i do without you? J

CHIN UP, HEAD HIGH

my confidence level is -100. i’m the type who walks with my head down, sits in the far corner of the room and gets nervous reciting in front of the class. HAHAHA! i’m not anti-social, i just don’t like getting attention. i think i’m the total opposite of our birthday girl. she knows how to carry herself wherever she is. she imposes confidence even with the little things she does. i don’t think i have ever seen her rattled by anything before.  maybe she panics sometimes too, but she doesn’t show it (that’s how good she is). she manages to put on a strong and confident front every time. J

STRENGTH&COURAGE

here goes the more dramatic part of the post. Julie is one of the bravest pals i have. true story. she’s not just some pretty face. being friends with her for a long time now gave me the chance to know more about her ups and downs. i gotta say, those “downs” weren’t itty-bitty downs, but real life hang-ups. i wonder if i’d ever get through those if i were in her shoes. and, she likes to work on them in secret. our heroine’s pretty discreet and hates to brag. HAHAHA! but seriously, i’m touched and grateful that she allowed me inside her more personal life. we’re always here for  her.

Dear Kapatid,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! i wish you all the greatest things in life!

here’s your present. i do hope you like it. this is all i can give ye. for now. J where’s my treat?! HAHA!

*thanks to Faith for the photo. sorry for cropping her out. HAHA.

21 reasons why i love FAITH

100912. tuesday.

Me:      it’s already your big day on the 12th!
Faith:   gift!
Me:      duh? you know i’m broke and you’re still expecting a gift?
Faith:   i want a blogpost about me! J
Me:      darn! challenging. i'll see what i can do. hahaha!

so, i have lined up here 21 reasons why i so love this person. actually, we can go over these reasons and the list would just be endless. that’s why i choose to point out only 21 most amazing things about her.

i love Faith obviously because…

-of her naturally curly hair. (trivia: the longer her hair becomes, the curlier it gets.)

-she has beautiful siblings: nemelyn HOPE and LOVE jane. (yes, the three theological virtues.) oh, let’s not forget their mom and dad, too.

-she has an amazing talent of knowing what habits (of her friends) to and not to embrace. (we've known each other for almost seven years and i never heard her say any swear words. no shits, no fucks, no nothing. now that's a skill, especially knowing the fact that she’s always with me. please don’t get me wrong. i’m not a ‘walking swear word’. HAHA.)

-of her fondness for turtles and cats. (she used to have a pet turtle and now she has a pet cat named Miming.)

-she travels to different places and i always have pasalubong when she comes back! :)

-she has this natural inclination for simplicity. she’s one of the fewest girls i know who don’t give a crap with how they look. what you see is what you get. (no fancy dresses, no make-ups, no nail polishes)

-she thoughtfully lets us use their house as our "orghouse".(we're free to come visit their place and do whatever we want anytime. but now that it's for sale, it's kinda sad. i can't believe we're losing our second home! okay, no more drama. HAHA.)

-i consider her my walking diary. my secrets are safe with her, i hope. HAHA! (well, i have enough trust in her that she's not gonna divulge any of my most ridiculous shares in life.)

-she knows how to cook good food. i don't.

-i think she's honest and sincere and straightforward. (i have nothing more to say about this.)

-she loves Twilight Saga as much as i do. haters, please get lost. HAHAHA. (she even bought a CD of Twilight movie's original soundtracks.)

-i believe she's easy to love and she deserves all the love she gets and more.

-she is such a health buff. (no softdrinks, no junk food? seriously? i don't even know how we became friends under those conditions. HAHA!)

-she is unbiased and free of judgment. (i'm  not scared of confiding in her. i know she's not gonna make a face no matter what she hears. she doesn't give a damn whether i do shitty things, and how she looks at me won’t change even when she learns the most insane and stupid things about me. i'm the luckiest to have her as a friend. J )

-we went to the same school in high school(at least from 2nd year) and college. (proud Johnians and Lyceans!)

-she's more of a listener than a talker. (and just when i need one like that, which is basically most of the time, do i come to her. HAHA.)

-she now has work. (and i'm just waiting for that friggin' day when she'd treat me. can't wait! woof-woof!)

-she sees beauty differently. (she adores the likes of Jodi Sta. Maria, Amy Austria and Ate Jennlou! HAHA.)

-she knows how to fight, too. (she may be friendly and all that, but she also knows how to put up a goddamn fight when necessary. she can be protective of people she cares about. bad people better not cross the line. you’ve been warned. HAHAHA!)

-she loves God. absolutely.

-she's my bru, brud, bruder, and that will never change. ever. :)

need i say more? what’s not to love?

i hope you like what i did. this is all i can give you ‘coz i’m broke as hell as of the moment. you said a post about you would be just fine, so here you go.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FAITH!
P.S.
i had a hard time coming up with this because of the pressure you put on me. i gave this so much thought, so you better like it or else... KIDDING! BWAHAHA.
